Is your computer booting up slow??

If your computer is slow starting in the mornings, it could be because you are shutting it completely down in the evenings. Important updates are “pushed” to the computers at around 6:00 pm every night. If your computer is off at that time, those updates are automatically pushed when you log in the next morning - hence the long start time.

To log off, simply click Start > Shut Down > Log off e123456 (your e-number)

Students - How do you save your files at home??

If you are working with Microsoft Office 2007 or if you are working with Microsoft Works, you are not going to be able to open your work here at school. NEVER just hit the save shortcut icon!!!! Here is how you need to save these files…

…or how to get to some sites that are blocked for students…

With our new internet filtering policy, many more sites are blocked from students this year. However, teacher filtering is much less restrictive this year.

So, how do you get access to those other sites?

First, type in the url as you normally would (i.e. www.cnn.com/video/, etc.)

If you see the “blocked” screen, click on “Click here”

The web authentication ID window will now pop up. Enter your e-number and your network/gradebook password:

Finally, the Authenticator window will appear - DO NOT close this window (or you won’t be able to get to your sites). Just minimize it and you’re off and running!

Can’t play a DVD? Use NISD DVD Player.

If you try to play a DVD in your computer, Windows Media player will probably pop up, and with our new Active Directory, it will not work!

To play a DVD, you need to use the new NISD DVD player.

Click Start > Programs>NISD DVD Player>NISD DVD Player.

When the window opens, click File > Open DVD.

When your movie starts playing, you can maximize the window to have the movie play full screen.

Additionally, you can add a shortcut to your desktop. Open the Staff Shortcuts foler on your desktop, then drag the NISD DVD Player shortcut to your desktop…
